Make
a Difference!
Whether you join the Hedgcoxe PTA, support the
PTA’s activities, volunteer for PTA, or go vote –
DO SOMETHING. The kids are watching!
As
news about the Presidential Election came on the television, my friend
wearily said “Honestly, I don’t care who wins, I just want
it all to be over.” At some level I’m confident most,
if not all of us, share her sentiments. We’ve weathered an
extremely long primary season. Now we’re being barraged by
the tactics and ads which most people find at least annoying, at worst
fueling cynicism. It is so easy to lose sight of the big picture.
No
matter who becomes the 44th President of the United States, history
will be made. Chances are good, that in some regards, voter
participation may be historical as well. The peaceful orderly transition of power based upon a democratic
process for all these years in and of itself is remarkable. Yes, there are flaws and shortcomings in the system which must be addressed and improved, but how often do we reflect on the distinctive aspects of the electoral and governmental processes which prevail in the land we currently call home?
Take
this opportunity to talk with your children about the election, the
process and the issues, at age-appropriate levels. You may be surprised
by their feelings and insights about the election.
Consider taking your children with you to vote. Find all informations about voting in Collin County including locations here .
For those who are eligible, exercise your right to vote. Remember, our children are watching.

Texas State
PTA
PTA
takes a stand on issues and principles — not on candidates or political parties.
Issues may become identified with partisan politics because of the
differing approaches to the solution, but the basic principles
involving the welfare of children and youths are matters of public
concern and, therefore,
PTA business.
Some examples of past Texas PTA non-partisan
legislative positions include
mandatory recesses in elementary schools, the establishment of
standards for the educational programs in
alternative education settings, and the
identification and tracking
of dropouts at all grade levels.
National PTA

It
is critical that
all PTA members demonstrate their role as child advocates
by becoming educated about candidates for public office and their
positions on legislative issues that are important to children and
public schools. By exercising our democratic right to vote, we are able
to give children a voice.
In the 2008 federal elections, voters will
determine our president,
our vice president, all 435 members of the U.S. House of
Representatives, and 35 U.S. senators.
In state elections, voters will elect 11
governors, more than 6,500 state house and senate members, and
countless
mayors, regents, city council members, boards
of supervisors, county officials, and school board trustees. Your vote
can make a difference for our children and communities.
